March 11th – 16th, 2004
How it all began….
The big idea for the Long Beach Long riders arose at the 2003 USITT Conference when Greg Williams casually suggested to Bill Sapsis that they might want to bike to next years’ conference in Long Beach, California.
Bill Sapsis even jokes that they could decorate his (Sapsis Rigging) booth with the motorcycles, and even charge others for the privilege.
Forward to a bunch of professional theatre technicians with limited funds, standing around talking bikes, gear, and a long weekend free of commitments, it took no time at all before the idea grew into a four act production.
Colleague Eric MacAfee suggested turning it into a charity fundraiser, and it all fell into place! the core group of nine (9) riders would ride from Boone, N.C. to Long Beach, Ca.; arriving in time for the USITT Conference March 16th, 2004
