Greetings and welcome to the 2021 Ride!  Fields and Forest, lakes and rivers — this year’s ride will take us through 4 states in the Upper Midwest that have a connection to Ol’ Man River, The Big Muddy, Old Blue, the Father of Waters as well as Route 61 ( for all you Dylan fans). The route will feature lots of long sweeping turns and lots of ups and downs as we explore the land that was shaped by the river. The dates are: Gathering on Saturday June 19, Ride June 20-26 with June 27 departure day.

We will start in St. Paul MN and head up the St Croix River to Lake Superior (Gitche gumee) and check out the Driftless Region characteristics that were left in this area coutesy of the last Glacial Age. We will overnight in Two Harbors MN on the Big Lake. The next day will be a tour across the state through lands of harvested and protected forests, through the Iron Range on to Bemidji MN — home of Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox.

The third day will have as its first stop the headwaters of the Mighty Mississippi in Lake Itasca State Park. We will cross the river 4 times before we arrive there (don’t blink) and another 4 times before we rest for the evening in St. Cloud MN hitting the lakes country (more than 10K — really!), Mille Lacs and the hometown of Charles Lindbergh.

Day 4 will follow the river (mostly) through more lakes until we rejoin the St Croix as it empties into the Mississippi. We will ride down the Wisconsin side of the river and stop at the National Bald Eagle Center in Wabasha before settling into La Crosse WI for 2 days.

Day 5 will explore the ravines and ridges of the Coulee Region, with a stop at a cheese factory (it’s WI — come on you have to have cheese) and some other points of interest.

Day 6 we will return to the Minnesota/Iowa side of the river for some more river and ridge running with lots of vistas of the river (which is now over a mile wide) valley. We will end the day in Galena IL, an old lead mining town and home to 9 Civil War generals including U.S.Grant.

Day 7 will be a ride up the river on many lovely swerving county roads that hug the bluffs and we will return to St Paul for our final gathering.

This ride is a good ride for people who are perhaps new to group riding and is not technically difficult. It’s a great ride to invite new folks to join us as we raise money for some very good causes.

The Ride Marshal(s) will be Rev (Paul Sannerud) and Clutch (Peggy) with perhaps guest appearances by Mint Saucy and Lamb Chop (Steph and Pat Lamb). We hope that you will join us!
