Hop Along's ride to the Ride... it's time to Ride

Posted 08-04-12 by shelleneseifert

Sometimes, even the best of plans can get tripped up.  There can be many causes, sure, but sometimes they end up for the better just as often as the end up for the worse.  For example, Thursday I had planned on parting ways with Frank en route to Washington and going to a swimming hole, then a certain route to a campground on the south side of Mt. Rainier.  Then on Friday would be an early arrivial into Seattle to spend time with a longtime friend from Cleveland who moved to...

Hop Along's ride to the Ride, entry 3

Today finds Frank and I in John Day, Oregon.  Yes, that is the town name.  I haven't found anybody yet to ask about the history of the name, because everything seems to shut down at 8pm.  We were lucky to get dinner. It's been a surprising day on the road.  Most of our day from Salt Lake City to here has been on the superslab.  There was a brief stint at Twin Falls to look at the super amazing bridge there, and a ride down old Highway 30 and past an area called Thousand...

Hop Along's Ride to the Ride... entry 2

Well it's been pretty predictable in a way:  spurts of rain through the Rockies and points west, on roads that frequently don't have guardrails.  It's been great!  This fine Tuesday evening, finds my multicolored Magna parked next to Frank's multi non-colored (it's black and white) BMW.  At just over 100,000 miles, my Magna has many miles to go to reach the mileage on Frank's bike.  Speaking of many miles, today I had some opportunities to think about some of the...

Hop Along's Ride to the Ride

Granted, it's now Sunday evening and I left hot, sunny Norman, Oklahoma on Friday after work.  But hey, it has been an interesting ride so far.  One of the things I thought would be fun-and a great way to cool off while riding-would be to stop at natural springs where possible.  When it's hot out, and you're on a motorcycle, it can be a challenge to stay cool.  When there is no shade, and not much of a breeze, it can be taxing.  Occassionally dipping into a clean pond,...

Hop Along's USITT Ride: Part 2

Posted 04-03-12 by shelleneseifert

After a great visit in Los Angeles with friends, it was time to head to Long Beach for USITT.  The conference always seems to go by so fast... and here I'd been hoping to take a scenic ride along the coast.  So much for that.  It did have a great ending:  The annual Behind the Scenes raffle, and the KAZOO PARADE.  I'm a fan of the kazoo parade.  It reminds me of our shop's version of the birthday song:  Off-key and off-tempo.  But we'll do better next...

Hop Along's ride to USITT

Posted 04-03-12 by shelleneseifert

Well when word was out that USITT was in Long Beach again this year (I know, tough place to visit-right?!?) I was among those excited.  It so worked out that I would be able to ride from Oklahoma to the conference, including time to visit friends in Los Angeles.  I would also be able to ride with a friend, taking the scenic route out... but knowing that we would need to THE SLAB back... as in, nearly 1400 miles in 36 hours, concentrated on I-40. The trip out was great.  Gorgeous...
