Day 8 - Separation Anxiety

Posted 08-12-12 by kaceymoe

We started this morning with losing one bike, Drew, who had to head home. I'm sure his wife and young son appreciated him heading south to them instead of an additional 250 plus miles to the north. Down one bike. Lead and sweep bikes keep track of everyone being together by head count usually (well bike count). Today became the day of recounting again and again. We drove through the desert where we came upon smoke. As we got closer we saw a helicopter scooping water from the river to fight the...

Day 7 - Bro'Moe and Dragonfly from Frigid to Fried

Posted 08-12-12 by kaceymoe

Today started out a cool 54 degrees as we left Madras. As for the whole trip, the scenery was beautiful. We started out with Mt. Hood in the distance. As we climbed into some elevation the temp seemed to drop, while it was more likely windchill, we stopped for gas and geared up with some warmer layers along with some rain gear with the ominous grey clouds overhead. We made a stop at the Vista House at the Columbia River where we had a great view of the gorge. Many kazoos were handed out and Ms...

Day 6 - Crater Lake

Posted 08-10-12 by kaceymoe

This morning we were on the road by 9am and off to the city of Klamath Falls along a gorgeously curvy road. Riding sweep today we laid back leisurely and enjoyed the views and the breathtaking drop offs! A picnic lunch had been ordered and after a quick stop in Klamata Falls for gas we were back on the road to Crater Lake. As we road along to Crater Lake the views of the mountains and volcanos in the distance were amazing. Got some great video of Scott and Shelley on their bike - Shelley was...

Day 5 Coos Bay to Ashland - Dragonfly and Bro'Moe

Posted 08-09-12 by kaceymoe

Phew. Today was a short one compared to yesterday.  This morning was a stop to the local Harley Dealer to pick upa new latch for the tour pack. Kicstands up at 10:15 or so. The pack went on while we waited for Loren and Kate. Loren needed a new tire, so we spent most of the morning playing catch up to the group. The road was beautiful - lots of curves, but also a lot of campers, RVs and trucks that we needed to pass. It took us 60 miles, but we eventually found the pack and were back...

Day 4 - 400 Miles - LONG day for Bro'Moe and Dragonfly

Posted 08-09-12 by kaceymoe

Still behind on the blogging, but hopefully will get caught up soon! Today we went from Klaloch all the way down the oregon coast to Coos Bay, OR. It was a 400 miler day. That's a LONG time on the back of the bike. Or the front of the bike. However, the breath-taking scenery along the way more than made up for it. We met up with Stagecraft Lister Don Taco at the Octupus Tree which was pretty cool. (both Don and the tree ;-) ) However we were fighting the cool weather and the dropping sun as we...

Day 3 - Bro'Moe and Dragonfly Back to America

Posted 08-08-12 by kaceymoe

So kickstands went up at 8:30 where we drove to the Royal Theatre for a photo op with the bikes. Then on to the the ferry to Port Angeles. After clearing customs we loaded up and were off. This ferry ride was much more intense the one from yesterday. It was COLD. It was windy. There was a lot more waves going on. Off the ferry and onto a beautiful ride - long sweeping curves and lots of short tight ones as we headed up to Cape Flattery to see the most Northwestern point in the contiguous United...

Day 2 - Bro'Moe and Dragonfly- It's a Ferry

Posted 08-08-12 by kaceymoe

We're a bit behind on the blog posting - our travels have taken us out of cell and wi-fi (Which makes it more of a vacation let me tell you!) Today was an easy day mileage-wise. We got up early for a 2 mile run to ward off the indulgent vacation food we're eating and to keep the muscles warm with sitting on the bike all day. Kickstands up at 10:45 took us for a short ride from Vancouver to the Ferry. We spent some time shopping and snacking waiting to load and then had a 2 hour Ferry ride....

Day 1 - Seattle to Vancouver Bro'Moe and Dragonfly Ride Sweep

Posted 08-06-12 by kaceymoe

So we began this morning with kickstands up at 9:45am. We started out with our usual tradition of being blessed by Bill Sapsis' (uncle bill) Aunt Ida's Holy Water. Each bike received a blessing before heading out on the road.  We were riding sweep (i.e. the last bike). With CB's we are able to communicate with Chrome and Lady Alice who are leading and make sure everything is okay. This also helps when all 17 bikes, the Chase Truck and Chase Van want to change lanes. We work from back to...

Day 0 - Bro' Moe and Dragonfly's trip to the Ride

Posted 08-05-12 by kaceymoe

Well it is finally here!!! We packed up the last of our things and headed toward the airport. Most of our stuff was already on its way to Seattle when we had put the motorcycle on the trailer on Monday and waved goodbye to it. As we headed on to the airport we had one errand to run, but was thwarted when our path was blocked by a freight train and google maps. Our destination was just beyond the tracks, and after circling back and around we realized google maps had not given us accurate...

Day 5- The final push!

Posted 04-06-12 by kaceymoe

I woke up to sunshine as I prepared for the final push for home.  I was excited to see blue skies to start my day and with 2 goals at hand for the day, I felt pretty darn good.  Goal #1 get to bristol for Brunchy/lunchy sorta thing.  I made it to Bristol in what felt like record time.  I spent almost 2 hours there visiting with my parents George and Judith Conn, (Some of you riders my remember feasting in their backyard on LRLR 6) It was interesting as it may be the last...
