Pre-ride: day -2 DGB heads out

Big day today; we needed to pick up two hours lost to Chicago traffic yesterday. Our goal is to be in Gillette, WY tonight, some 950 miles from Madison, tonight. We were up, fed, and out repacking the trailer by 7:30AM. We really needed to redistribute weight in the trailer in order to ease the load on the rear axle and avoid another shredded tire. Pre-ride: day -3 DGB heads out

I met up this morning with Patrick Wallace in Bellevue, OH as planned. We loaded my bike on the trailer and headed west to pick up Jared's bike. We made that pickup on time and continued on to Indiana. Patrick and I are both very impressed with the rental truck and how well it handles this trailer with the load of six bikes and one in the bed for a total of seven. We manage the speed limit and then some with no problem.   Things went very well until we reached Chicago and the I-90/94W loop...

Pre-ride: day -4 DGB heads out

What an awesome day for a ride! I left Lexington,NC at 7:30 AM and arrived in Ashland, OH at 4:00 PM, covering the 450 miles in 8.5 hours. I was able to take breaks about every 90 miles, and had a leisurely lunch in Ripley, WV. It seems weird to be in Ashland, OH knowing that I'll be in Ashland, OR in just a few days. Weird. I had forgotten what a great stretch of Interstate is I-77 N from North Carolina through Virginia and West Virginia. It seemed like I had the entire road to myself through...
